The Melissa Dress

The Design
Jessica designed this gown to wear year round and be easily dressed up or down to let it speak for itself. ‘I was looking for a silhouette that could please a lot of different body types after speaking to so many Mothers of the Bride & Grooms.
Everyone wants to cover their hips, so I thought how can we do that while creating a beautiful figure at the same time?’(Jessica Resch).  The Melissa dress was the answer with side pleating that gives plenty of forgiveness while creating a sculpted waist. ‘I was trying to make a dress that Moms would be happy with and I believe this gown will do just that!’.
The Details
Jessica dreamed up this taffeta gown that is the essence of elegance. The Melissa dress worn by Lori from Model Bride is made in a Navy Blue Taffeta with a strapless neckline. The best part of this dress is just how flattering it is on! At the waist you can see a side pleat, which gives the illusion of a column skirt by bringing your eyes from the waist straight down to the hem, when in fact this is a full skirt. This gives you plenty of room and forgiveness around the hips!
Taffeta fabric is also a great choice for a formal wear dress because it is light weight and has enough sheen to bring the dress to life. It also comes in a wide variety of colors and is a smooth fabric that isn’t so prone to pulls and frays. This fabric makes for a perfect year round option. In the cooler moths, throw on a jacket or wrap with it and in the summer wear just as it is.
The strapless top has a slight curve to it to add a little more coverage while still being just low enough to wear a necklace. The pleating is also gathered to the side which allows for the waist to look cinched and create an hour glass figure.
Since we are coming up on cooler months, let's start with a styling for Fall and Winter occasions. We would pair it with a matching jacket or wrap, which will be available to shop in the Fall/Winter Collection or even a faux fur jacket or wrap to really add the glamour.
Navy is such a versatile color that you could pair it with gold, silver or platinum jewelry and accessories. We always love a champagne gold with this Navy color but we especially love a touch of bling! The strapless neckline gives statement jewelry the perfect opportunity to shine on a special occasion.
For Spring and Summer we would leave it on its own but if you really would like a wrap for some extra coverage, a simple tulle wrap would be a great option to hold around your arms. Without a wrap or jacket, you should absolutely go big on the shoes and jewelry!
